Life with a Service Dog: June 2010

Me and Benny went to our first dog show this past weekend. We went with a friend, Kathy, and her dog, Woodie. We left on Friday and stopped along the way to let the dogs play a bit. Then drove the rest of the way. It's approx. 5-6 hours from where i live. We stopped at the show site first to check it out then went to the motel. The motel we stayed at was pretty nice, it had a indoor heated pool which of course i had to go swimming. I put Benny in a down/stay near the pool and he wanted so badly to come in, but he did keep his down/stay. what a good boy! On Saturday was the first show. Benny was entered in Rally Novice A. He did really good for his first show. He scored a 93 and got second place, the judge told me some points were taken off because of poor sits and downs and a tight leash once. The first qualifying score! Kathy & Woodie entered in Rally advanced and Excellent on both days. I also went to check out the obedience trials and the agility trials, and also went to see some of the breed rings. I was gonna go watch the golden retrievers but they were at the same time when i had to be at the rally ring so wasn't able to. oh well. They also had quite a bit of vendors there (uh oh!) but i was good and just bought Benny some Jerky Naturals salmon treats. I HAD to buy at least ONE thing! LOL!
After the show, we took the dogs to the beach and let them play. They had alot of fun! Luckily there were hardly any waves since i didn't bring Benny's lifejacket.
After the beach, we then went out to eat at Pizzeria Uno's with Kathy and her friend. I have never been there and have trouble with "different" stuff, I like to stick with foods i'm used to. But i ended finding that they had chicken fingers there which i really like so i got that. Kathy got a pizza with lobster, spinach, and goat cheese (i think it was goat cheese) and offered me a piece, i actually decided to try it and it wasn't TOO bad. lol. very different though!
After that we went back to the motel and I went swimming for a bit, then went back to the room and went to sleep.
On Sunday after we checked out of the motel, we went to the showgrounds and me and Benny competed in our second show. We got a perfect score of 100 and first place!! yipppeeee!! 2nd qualifying score, second leg. We just need one more leg then Benny will have his RN title! After that, we got ready for the loooong drive back home. We all had a GREAT weekend!
